Hearing about actor Charlton Heston's death last night was a hard one to swallow. I loved his films and I fully believe he was a Hollywood icon that can never be replaced. His films were legendary from "The Ten Commandments" to "The Omega Man." My wife and I had the honor of meeting Mr. Heston some 10 years ago when we owned and published a group of newspapers in East San Diego County. The area's congressman Duncan Hunter had a local fund raising event that featured the famous actor and all those attending had a chance to talk with him and get our pictures taken. What I remember most about our short visit was just how nice the man was. Here he was in his 70s at the time still answering questions from so many people about his films. Shaking his hand was like touching the Hollywood we all remembered and wished was still there. He took his time talking to each one of us. Of course my wife being somewhat more sophisticated than me asked him about making "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben Hur." Of course I asked him about "Planet of the Apes" and "Earthquake." He laughed and joked with us that "the guys always ask about Planet of the Apes."

He was an acting legend and one who cared. The sad thing is that the actors of today will never capture the type of respect that Mr. Heston could bring to the screen and to his personal appearances. He will be deeply missed.

I'm not a bit surprised in your assessment and experience with Mr Heston. I would have loved to have met this legend myself. Perhaps in another life. His portrayal of Moses is one of those classics that never gets old with time. There was a time that I admired actors, looked up to some, and the roles they played. None come to mind now, and many today have roles they play off the screen that are worse than those they portray on the screen. Go figure! Charlton Heston was a man of Character both on and off the screen. He will be dearly missed.

I told you I'm anal. So is it Charleton or Charlton ? It seems the author of this piece had a change of mind between the title and the content...

hee hee

The author, as in "me", put an "e" where it should not "be."

It of course is Charlton...thanks for picking up the typo.
