Guest Review by Brandie Lovato

by Sarah Ockler, Fiction, Little, Brown

290 pages, hardcover, ISBN: 978-0-316-05159-0

Sarah Ockler's heartwarming novel about a girl's first love, loss, and recovery is the reviewer's current favorite.

The first part of the book starts at Anna Reiley's fifteenth birthday party where her birthday candle wish has finally come true, and the love saga between Anna and her best friend and next door neighbor, Matt Perino, kicks off with a birthday cake fight.

The Reiley/Perino trist remains a secret for the next month where Matt will tell his sister and their best friend, Frankie, about what had happened while on their family's annual summer vacation to Zanzibar Bay, Ca.

Unfortunately, the Perinos never get to Zanzibar Bay, not that year anyway, and Anna is left keeping this secret from everyone, including her best friend.

Anna Reiley from New York and her best friend and next door neighbor Frankie Perino take the annual trip to Zanzibar Bay with Frankie's parents the next year. There, both Anna and Frankie are determined to shake the shackle to Matt's horrifying story as well as Anna's Albatross.

This book shows the escape from the past of two girls in a new environment. It truely is a great book for the young adult.
