Question to Slimdown Contenders

Take Me To Post Comment Form

I went to 545 am class this morning. As always it is nice to see some of the Summer Slimdown people! After the work out Cameron (one of the drill Sergent's) told me that it looks like I am losing weight!! That made me feel extremely happy. Last week my numbers went up by a very small margin. Yes I know it was only a tenth of a percentage point. But to me it was like the end of the world. I started focusing on the three times I had snacks and did not have carbs....leading to weighing myself 5x that day.......then to checking my email every five minutes to see who lost what. I really need to stop obsessing over this contest and focusing on ME and what I am doing!
I am losing weight and getting healthy! I would love to win all those nice prizes and money to my charity SINGLE MOTHERS OUTREACH. Yet, I need to remember that this is just a contest that will ultimately end. This contest will end for every one of these SUPER SLIMDOWN CONTESTS. Then the real challenges will begin. We are going to be faced without having a wonderful gym to workout. We will be faced with not having wonderful trainers’ to scream “10 more seconds" or to tell us “Don’t focus on the numbers” to "Your losing weight". We will be faced with no weekly weigh ins and the horrid fat pinch; the many different social events, to the all night fast food restaurants. Studies show that people lose weight to just gain it all back. That has been many of our realities. Now, the question I have is did every one of us sign up for this for nine weeks? Is this another fad diet for all of us? Or is this the start of a whole new life????

I am the first to tell you all this is the start of my whole new life!!!

This was a great post and question! I had a lot to say, so I figured I'd reply with my own post: http://community.the-signal.com/blogs...

My goal is to lose 40 lbs -which is unrealistic in 9 weeks. So I am hoping for 20 lbs which is now looking unrealistic. I have cut way down on breads, watching what I eat and still have only lost about 1/2 pound.. So I am trying to really get to the gym. Do a walk- jog route that Sharlene showed me.

As for a 9 week fad - I hope not.. I am thinking of joining a gym after the 9 weeks as I know I would not push myself without outside help..and I still want to lose that 40 lbs over time.

Good luck and hope to see you at the gym...

Very good blog! For some of us it has left us with questions we need to start thinking about considering that this contest is almost half over. I do know for a fact that I am in this for good! I started my own diet in January, lost 44 lbs. on my own, even joined a gym. This contest has re motivated me. When I hit my plateau a few months ago I thought that was as far as I was going to go. Started eating the wrong foods, drinking the diet sodas I had recently eliminated from my diet. I wasn't happy. This contest came along and has reopened my eyes once again. Once the contest is over I am afraid I will loose Results Fitness. The trainers and staff are so wonderful and kind to all of us. That helps with weight loss.I will have my old gym to continue on with. And I am very happy with them. =)
If I could I would do both. But financially that won't work for me. But I do know I want to feel like this daily! It's the best medicine for me. I will miss the all the friends I made and everyone at the gym coaching me along! Thanks for the blog, good to think about this before this ends.

Diane this was a GREAT blog. So many true thoughts and feelings. I know you will be succesful in your goals. I was right there along side you working out at 5:45 am yesterday and I see how much you put into your workouts! I have to tell myself EVERYDAY I did not put the weight on in a few days, weeks or months and I can't take it off in that amount of time either. It is a DAILY struggle but once we accept this challenge and know that we can have small pleasures now and then but must spend the majority of our time on track to continue to lose or simply to maintain what we have lost, the better off we will feel and the less "obsessing" we will do. Just focus on YOU. You are worth it and deserve it.

September 09, 2009
This week I haven't been feeling that well. I think it might be the change in schedule. I skipped the gym yesterday and went to bed at 9pm. I think that helped tremendously; and I was able to make it to the 12pm class! Good job everyone!!
