We live and move in a fluid world.
To borrow some of the sage wisdom of Ferris Bueller, "Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
Change is nothing new at 24000 Creekside Road; if anything, it's a hallmark of life.
But that still doesn't necessarily prepare you for the exit of a trusted colleague.
With the departure of Photo Editor Bryan Kneiding, The Signal has lost a great asset.
I had the distinct pleasure of working with and alongside Bryan for the last three-plus years.
We covered everything from the mundane to the tragic, and in all of it I saw nothing but professionalism from him.
There were many moments on assignment when Bryan would ask a great question of an interviewee that I hadn't thought of. I always valued that.
He was more than simply a Signal photographer; he was a consummate photojournalist - dedicated to capturing excellent images, and passionate about the First Amendment rights of journalists.
Over nine years in The Signal's service, he also developed a great rapport with the community, particularly those in the public safety realm.
What can I really say?
Bryan was one of the great ones, and his departure leaves a big hole.
But like I said, we're used to change. We've seen a lot of it in the past year. We'll probably see more. But I cling to a hope we'll weather these storms and come out stronger. Better. More tempered.
With all that said, here's to you, Mr. Kneiding, a faithful and trusted brother-in-arms in the daily fight to uphold Truth, serve the public interest and do an excellent job.
You will be missed.
