That's not prejudice sonny boy. They are doing their job, which includes policing noise levels on "Nice Looking Import Sport Vehicles"; which I read as Rice Burners, heavily modified japanese imports. They don't need an instument to measure the noise. Aftermarket exhausts are louder. That's a fact.
As for the Mustang that passed you while you were getting your citation, that's a fish that got away. For you to question the officer, as to why he is not pursuing that vehicle is juvenile and stupid.
Don't be a crybaby and play the race card. Man up, pay your citation and junk that noisy exhaust system.
Hey Tomato. I was not there but I believe every word. Why? Because, SCV deputies only know how to behave as juveniles. It is just tolerated and that is that. Regarding the race issue, no you were not target for your race. Those days are gone – for the most part.
You were pulled over for the same reason all races get pulled over - because you were in violation of the Vehicle Code. But that is not why you were cited. You were ticketed because you are a citizen rather then a police officer. In this budget strapped economy citizens in California have to rise up to the challenge and contribute more to the current budget crises then law enforcement personnel. However, they seek the rewards of our labor.
They get the free lunches, ride the car pool lanes illegally (for free), they never pay a traffic ticket (including but not limited to DUIs), and the list goes on.
California is a socialist society. That being true, those in government get the free ride, while law enforcement gets the easiest free ride. The citizens loose their homes to this recession while law enforcement personnel do over time at their leisure. They do not have to earn a promotion to get a raise. They just have to put in more OT.
Ask an officers if this a fair and they will say "everyone get a break somewhere in life. You might know a mechanic who can fix your car below market cost. Is that fair to the rest of us?"
It is not a reflection of police officers, but rather is a reflection of a system lacking oversight.
I am glad he gave you a ticket I think more tickets should be givin out for loud exaust and stereos.
You people, literally, amaze me! Independence...you never disappoint me with your comments - they remain ever the same. Basically...that it all comes down to the "man" and it's just a conspiracy to keep the people down. Arghhh...That dog just doesn't hunt!
Well Mr. AverageCitizen, unlike yourself I appreciate what you have to say. However, they did not make sense, but I am sure that is not a reflection of your intelligence or lack thereof. Rather, a reflection of your feelings regarding this matter. Your words were emotive, but they were neither logical nor informative. I hope your future entries are more thought provoking and less “preaching to your choir (law enforcement personnel).
You attacked me rather then the content of the blog. Why?
Such actions by yourself and others only lead to prevent open dialog between your fellow “AverageCitizens. History is full of such people who attack the messenger rather then the message. To name a few would be Sirhan Sirhan, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Wilkes Booth, James Earl Ray, etc…
Do you attack only the messenger because the message it too real, too true, or too scary?
The fact is traffic violations generate revenue. That revenue is distributed between different levels of government, such as the city, county and state. An additional fact is that that revenue is spent on public programs. Basically, it is a re-distribution of wealth. Another additional fact is that law enforcement personnel do not pay into this additional revenue, but they benefit from it. Hence they benefit from our labor on a daily basis and we do not benefit from them on a daily basis. No they do not protect us, our property, or our family. Thieves do not pick a person or a house by which victim is less likely to get a 911 response. Actually, thieves pick the person or the house they can most easily over power. That is why single moms and women living alone are advise to leave a few large pair of worn in workout shoes on their prouch, get a big dog or 2, etc. We, the AverageCitizens, are our last and only defense to a crime. You can ask any average citizen what cop was a hero on flight 93. The actual heroes were your AverageCitizens.
RobsMadTour. I too am glad Tomato was cited for the vehicle code violation. But I pray for the day when ALL are cited for their vehicle code violation. Unfortunately, today looks very similar to the days prior to the civil rights movement. Only today there is no line between blacks and whites. But rather 2 different groups on either side of the thin blue line. Those would be the 2 groups that law enforcement see: (1) Those in law enforcement and (2) everyone else. With that comes a division between the rights of law enforcement and the rights of American citizens. I think if We The People were to look at this issue without prejudice or fear we would see that today we are witnessing a new form of Separate But Equal.
Its always the race card that gets played. What you don't understand is it is the group of people that don't follow the laws and when cought they want to say its because they are hispanic or black. Get over it beleive you me I would get the same ticket if I was doing the same thing. I am so sick of people breaking the law and crying the race card. Too jail with all of you if you are not paying attention to the law and maybe I can live in peace in my neighborhood without worring.
I'm a teacher employed by the Los Angeles Unified School District. Everyday students play the race card with me, if I mark them tardy unexcused. Civil rights should not mean that minority groups do not have to play by the rules of the game. However, if minority students are sent to the dean's office, than I'm accused of being a racist.
It seems to me, that we should allow immigrants to come here illegally, break every traffic law, send their kids to school without the proper character development, engage in criminal activities and acts of terrorism, and if you oppose this kind of nonsense, than you are a racist.
Incidentally, if you voted for Hillary, then you are a racist. If you like McCain, then you are a racist. If you do not support Obama with enthusiasm, then you are a racist.
Now this is what I say. If you deport the illegal aliens, then they will come back to do us harm. Only capital punishment will prevent another nine-eleven. Support legal immigration. Support civil rights. However, there should be no exceptions to violations of the law of the land. If you do not like the laws, then elect different legislators that will change the laws. Otherwise, all you have left is anarchy.
I have talked to several police officers and although we would like to say that racial profiling doesn't exhist we have to be realistic about it. It does is out there and thats because if you look at statistics most hispanics and blacks commit more crime. We have a huge population of hispanic gangs in Santa Clarita. I think in some ways the police need that profiling for their own protection. If you went to ten crimes and all were conducted by a certian race would you not be wary. I would love for there to be no racial tension in the world but thats how it is and maybe if people would work harder to be better people then it wouldn't happen. On the other hand I have known some people of differant races who see prejudice where it isn't and throw that around all the time. How can people get over prejudice and see you for who you are if you keep throwing out the prejudice card. Stop seeing yourself as a minority and see yourself as a human and other people will see you the same way.
Sorry, you deserve the ticket. And if your front windows are tinted, you desevered that one, too. The fact is you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's how EVERYONE gets a ticket. If you hadn't been there and the Mustang had driven by, he would have gotten the ticket. Just because you happened to be the one who got pulled over doesn't make it a race issue (and if your front windows were tinted, how would he have even known?). What was he SUPPOSED to do? Leave you and chase after that guy? Not going to happen.
Getting free lunches (and actually, that's not true... discounts, yes. Free, never. And my husband is a cop, so I know) is a rule of the establishment and has NOTHING to do with the cops themselves. If you want to get on someone's case about that, write the owners of the restaurants. They DO undergo behavior and sensitivity training during the academy, although I will readily admit that at the end of their two years spent in the jails, they should be forced to undergo counseling.
Here's a little secret: deputies (we don't have police here, we have a sheriff's department) DO get in trouble for their behavior if someone complains. See a cop driving unsafely around town? Write down the number on their car and CALL THE LOCAL SHERIFF'S station! These guys get in trouble for flaunting their power. If he's rude to you or mistreats you, COMPLAIN. I have seen NUMEROUS cops get reemed for acting like jerks to the people they serve.
And to Stephen Winkler... dear lord, I hope you don't ever teach my children. Capital punishment will prevent terrorism?! Are you insane? Study after (reputable) study has proven that capital punishment DOES NOT prevent crime. Especially when your "terrorists" see death as being a martyr.
Dear Sinkingblue:
In the sense that the death penalty eliminates the possibility of the offender becoming a repeat offender, the death penalty does prevent crime. The great majority of crimes are made by repeat offenders. The criminal will not be around to harm another member of our society a second time. Incidentally, how would you like to volunteer to be the victim of a second offender to prove that your study is right?
The flaw in your argument is that the criminals who would be eligible for the death penalty are guilty of crimes that - in the absence of capital punishment - would warrant a life without the possibility of parole sentence anyway. If they ARE eligible for parole, they wouldn't be eligible for the death penalty. These people would never have the chance to be repeat offenders. Study after study has proven that capital punishment simply doesn't not deter crime.
I will tell you what SINKINGBLUE I will let the goverment know they no longer need to pay to keep these people alive that my taxes currently pay for (I support the death penalty for violent offenders/Muders ext.) and let them know you will be glad to pay for thier life long prision stay.
My dear Sinkingblue:
A point of clarification about my teaching. If I were ever to teach your children, I would teach them nothing except the California Content Standards. Incidentally, that is all that you are allowed to them anyway. I do not teach what I blog. However, some teacners do and some teachers have the students frightened to death. For example, my students are terrified that John McCain is going to send them off to war and get killed. That is bare-faced lie! Number one, we have an all-volunteer army. Nobody goes to Afghanistan nor Iraq, if the did not want to join the Army. They the risks, when they sign up for military service. You do not have to serve.
Number two, the one most likely to put our kids in harm's way is person, who knows only about war through video games, movies, and books. Presidents like Washington and Eisenhower kept us out of war, because they had the experience of blood and gore and knew how horrible war was from personal experience. This is not an endorsement of John McCain's candidacy, however, I hate to see a presidential election decided by lies. I also resent paying taxes to have our teachers teach propaganda in the classroom. That is not content standards.
I agree with you 100%. Most, not all, the sheriffs out here are racist but some are. It's those some that make the whole department look bad.A few years ago,My then 19 year old son was driving my 1990 Cadiallic De ville with my 14 year old son and my 10 year old daughter. He was sent to pick them up from a bible class at a friends house.A sheriff drives slowly behind him and turn on the big light on them to see who was in the car and then decides to pull them over. The officer looks inside the car and sees who's in it asks him "where are you headed and where are you coming from and who are they" and then lets him go.They were stopped merely for being Latinos driving a older big car.Last year,my now 20 year old son was stopped and was given a warning about his front plate and was told that he stopped him because he has short dark hair. What's that all about?? But it goes to show you that we do need a police department like San Fernando or Burbank. So we can stop being the training grounds for these young sheriffs with old double strandards especially when it comes to minorities.
METZLI-
WOW you have got to be kidding me. did you ever think maybe he got pulled over because he was driving a crappy car that is mostly driven by 'gang members' which could be white, black, latino, asian? at night and probably got nervous and slowed which was suspicious? you know you people drive me crazy. im serious almost everyone on here has just made my blood boil but especially you. and what you think the san fernando police is better? why because they are racist and only pull over whites and blacks which is the MINORITY in SF valley. you have got to be kidding if you think that go move with the rest of your people in the valley and get out of scv!
But aren't you sterotyping, too, xki2isx????He probably wouldn't have got stopped if at the time he drove ,let's say, a honda. A car that is stolen (statically) most often by your "gang members".Whether you're white, black, brown ,or purple.Young people(under 20) get stopped more often then the rest of us.Mind you ,I'm from Mexican descent but my sons are very fair skin due to the Celtic in them. They still got stopped for driving a certain car. That is still racism.Or to put it more politically correct- Racial profiling due to the car and what they thought of the driver. But that still doesn't excuse the fact that the other officer said what he said.Granted he gave him a warning for his front plate that he just lost. That is the job of that officer to do so or to cite him which he didn't. But to state an opinion of what he thoughtother than what he got stopped for is apalling. San Fernando may not be better but it's a start for this city to have it's own police department. And I did state the city Of Burbank who also have their own police department. this city doesn't have alot of long term officers. I know several of them in this city. There are some things you learn to adjust and hope for change.
oh ya and you said the point to your story was the sheriffs in scv were racist and now your saying your son is white. you are funny! contradicting yourself
Metzli-
that's not 'racial profiling'. it may be stereotypical but guess what you drive around and isn't that stereotype quite true??? don't you see most 'gangsters' driving in old caddy's or Oldsmobile? and Burbank is the same situation by the way. just like sfv they don't give a rats ass a Hispanic person walking down the street with pants down to his knees with a gun hanging out or a white guy walking down the street who are they going to question first. im not trying to offend anyone but in the valley, and most of la county the sheriff / police do harass white people a lot more then in santa clarita where i believe they treat everyone more equally. and for your information they dont train in scv... scv is the place where they choose to get stationed. most get trained in the valley, and i know many sheriffs in la county. so lets get our facts straight.
santa clarita is a great place to live BECAUSE of the sheriffs department. and because people care about the city. unlike the valley where people don't give a crap what goes on ...
were all here to state our opinion you have a right to yours but i am trying to say, not everyone is racist. me being a gay male myself could sit around and hate everyone and think that they are against me because im gay just like most minorities do these days. its pathetic. we need to be more secure with ourselves and just live life to the fullest and stop complaining about everyone else.
Why is it then when a black or mexican get pulled over its racist but if a white kid gets pulled over its because they broke the law. Do mexicans and blacks not break the law because of there skin color. I see lots of young kids getting questioned by the police every day in scv and color has nothing to do with it. I will however say in my neighborhood in canyon country its a big problem with latino gangs. If this is such a big problem for the mexican people when you get into trouble take some of those family values you brag about and make your damn kids mind and live a better crime free life. We don't want drugs and killing in our neighborhood. Whites are the minority and I am sick of the race card.
