As some may already know or will soon realize, it looks like another exciting fall sports season for teams in the Santa Clarita Valley area.
There are certainly enough teams that will have plenty of success before New Year's Eve.
Hart football, despite a season-opening loss to Palmdale, looks to defend its Foothill League title. Canyon, Saugus and possibly Valencia appear to be the very early front-runners this season, although it'll take at least three weeks for one of them to emerge.
My early pick was Saugus, but Canyon could be the more complete team. The Vikings have a solid squad as well. We'll soon see.
Teams like West Ranch and Canyon are already suffering early injuries, something they'll have to overcome pretty quick.
Saugus boys and girls cross country, along with the Canyon girls and Valencia teams, appear loaded for bear. It should be a dogfight - or run - this entire season.
Valencia and West Ranch girls volleyball teams will fight it out for Foothill League supremacy. It'll be interesting to see if the upstart WRHS Wildcats can knock off the Vikings in their matches later this season.
Can Valencia girls tennis be stopped in league play? It'd be quite a story if they do, seeing as how they have not lost a league match in quite some time. Again, West Ranch and Hart look to be contenders for playoff spots as well.
College of the Canyons football, volleyball and even women's golf teams are all early favorites to contend for conference championships. Just COC being COC, I guess.
The AYSO soccer season has also arrived. We're looking forward to covering a few youth sports leagues here and there, from Castaic Lake to Central Park in the Saugus area to Canyon Country.
