House of Dark Shadows, Dreamhouse Kings, Book One by Robert Liparulo was a fantastic quick read about a family of five who move to northern California and into a house full of questionable behavior.

Did I say that right? A living house? One with bad behavior.

Or is it the house at all? Is it, maybe, what lives in it?

The King family didn’t believe such a ludicrous idea either until they saw for themselves that in the servant’s quarters of their new antique Victorian house, beyond a false wall that is nearly invisible to the human eye lay a set of spooky stairs and a long hallway full of doors.

Behind each door a portal to to a different time and place waits for anyone brave enough to enter a into a new adventure and place themselves in grave danger.

Xander is 15 years-old, his little brother David is 12. Together the two boys show great courage and a fair amount of stupidity by daring to venture into the unknown chaos lurkings beyond the hall of doors.

House of Dark Shadows, Dreamhouse Kings, Book One is perfect for a pre-teen boy between 9 and 12 years old.

It’s a great way to get a kid who might ordinarily be bored with youth literature to transform into an instant reading fan.

Book Two of the Dreamhouse Kings series is bound to be another wild ride as the King family continues to search for answers that lie beyond the hidden door.
