The United States was conceived from oppressive and unjust taxation by Great Britain. On 7 August 1794, the farmers of western Pennsylvania rebelled in the Whiskey Rebellion, when small farmers were required to pay a federal tax of nine cents on a gallon of whiskey, while large producers only paid six cents.
